Hello, hello. Thanks for listening to guidance counselor 2.0. Listen, I want to give you a quick rundown of what this podcast is and what you're about to get into as you listen to these episodes. We had guidance counselors in middle school. We had guidance counselors in high school, but we didn't really have guidance counselors in college and now as professionals. We don't really have anybody to turn to to ask a quick question to learn something about the job search or to navigate your career. So that is what I want this podcast to be for you. I want it for it to be a tool for you to navigate the job search and your career.

So that being said, I hope you enjoy this episode and if you need to reach me, tailor at vacovac.com is how to get in touch with me old-fashioned email social media at tdsintdessey. And finally, please rate and review this in the app store because I want this to be discoverable for others so they can navigate their careers. Hope you enjoy the episode. What's going on everybody? Good morning. Good morning. Happy Humvee. May it halfway through the week for the record. Wednesday's feel kind of like Tuesdays to me lately and I don't know why, but I'm excited to hang out with you all today. So good morning.

Welcome to guide to country 2.0 solo edition. Just me today. And I'm excited to be with you all. I'm talking about topic that I'm really starting to hear more about right now and I'm excited to hang out with you all and hopefully have a conversation. So if you are watching, please. If you are watching, please comment. Say hey, let me know. The reason why I tell people that the reason why I tell people to say hey, let me know what you're doing from is it's a networking thing. I mean, I say this all the time. Right? For the people tuning in, Mark John is good to see y'all.

Y'all know this. But this is a networking platform. People actually use this thing now to comment, to engage. like, I mean, I tell people it's all the time. Like if you, if you watch this and now in the future, what I would do if I were you, I would, I'm giving you permission. I'm giving you full permission to network off the back of me. Right. So what does that look like? If I were you, I would log in to the show every day. I would comment. I would connect with every single person that comments. Slides of their DMs. Say hey. And what I would do is I would connect with the guest.

Obviously no guest today. But connect with the guest. Right. I had tested yesterday from Snapchat. Right. Go connect with Tesla. Tell her, hey, and again, here's John pointed this out. My guy John pointed this out. John said, if you send a friend request to me because it's guidance counselor 2.0, please let me know. Right. Please let me know. Also to ask questions, right. I'm talking about topic that's extremely important. I think we all need to talk about more about burnout about mental health about giving yourself some grace. I do have a texting community 615-235-5650 and in this texting community, I've had multiple text about this.

So I was like, know what I'm going to talk about today on my solo show. So I'm really excited to be with y'all. See y'all commenting again. Keep commenting. Ask some questions. Also too. If you're not a part of it, I have a discord. It's over 500. We're getting close to 500 IT folks in it. I post jobs. I post everything. But I actually just came up with this idea literally right now. Literally right now. I'm going to create a guidance counselor 2.0 chat. And so us can just hang out and guidance counselor 2.0. We can talk about the show. And so I'm actually going to create that.

So if you want to be a part of that, let me know send me DM. I'll send you an invite and we can do that. Also too. I know I talked about this. I'm going to talk about it. So y'all can hold me accountable. I'm going to do a guidance counselor 2.0 virtual conference. I don't know what it looks like. I don't know how I'm going to do it. If you're interested in helping me, please slide into my DM's Michelle and Dev who are watching yesterday. I mentioned it. Please, please send me a DM if you want to help me organize a guidance counselor 2.0 virtual conference.

So let me know send me DM. Send me DM because I will forget about you. So dev Michelle send me DM. Anybody else is interested send me DM. Also two more shout outs here. One, want to give a shot to that conference. So that conference is the official coffee sponsor of the show. Go check it out. Clark and that conference just dropped some beans for new beans. He was on the show a little bit ago.

He is a engineer turned recruiter from across the pond in England. He has a book out 100 bucks. If you use the code Taylor 10, you get 10% off. And I think it's good. I really do. I would check it out. Not many engineers are successful as a recruiter. He's doing it. His book is good. It gives you really practical tactical advice. And I'm all about helping people that are doing it the right way. So go check that out. Awesome. All right. Cool. A few more people to do. and let's see here. Mark John Graham. For Knoxville. Yes. Absolutely. From Murphy's bar. I love it. I love it. It's great to see you. All right. Cool. So let's talk about this burnout burnout. So let's keep it really day. I think people are hanging on by thread raise your hand raise your hand if you're hanging on by thread. Just me. Just me. I'm just hanging on by thread. I think people are tired. I think people need a break. I don't think people know what to do. I can't tell you the amount of people and tick talks. Great to see y'all. y'all, chammin' in here. I can't tell you the amount of people that have messaged me and go, I'm actually relieved that I was laid off.

Let me ask you this, if you were laid off today from your job, would you be thankful or would you be sad? Would you be thankful or would you be sad? You can answer, you don't have to answer, you don't have to answer, because your employer may see this, so maybe don't answer. But would you feel happy and relieved or sad and disappointed if you were laid off today from your job? And if you're a freelancer, let's just say you had a boss and your freelance job. How would you feel? And so, I don't know the fix to this. If y'all have thoughts on how to fix this, I think right now, I think if you can afford it, I mean the market sucks, there obviously is a recession.

I don't care what you read, we're in a recession. I think at the end of the day, I think you need to take some time for yourself. And so, I'm gonna tell you what I'm doing for myself right now. I'm stopping work at five. I think during COVID, not I think during COVID, I was working 12, 14 hours a day. Right? And I'm burnt out. I mean I'm just gonna say it. And I, you know, I'm not afraid to say it. I'm not afraid to say it live. I've told my boss is this. Like I'm burnt out, I'm burnt out, I'm tired. And what I'm trying to do is I'm trying to get out in the sunlight.

My wife and I have read some stuff when we talk about just getting out in the sunlight and to be able to get some sun that helps getting out, helps a ton. I'm sorry to do that. Fitness, if you follow me on social media, I try to work out a ton, trying to give really, really trying to give myself like some physical like just to work out. I feel a lot better. Yeah, Riley comes in, getting myself outside helps. I think another thing that I'm doing right now is I'm trying to not put so much pressure on myself at work because right now there's only so much I can control.

Right, there's only so much I can control. And so that's what I'm trying to do as well. So I'm interested in your thoughts. What are you guys doing? How are you guys helping work like bounce? I'm gonna get to obviously some of this here. So going back, obviously burn out. It seems like everybody is. Clark, I love you buddy. I'm sorry at rock bottom. I understand Taeya, Graham, 100% both hands up. Yep, absolutely. Christina out here coming back from Costa Rica. That's awesome. Becky definitely feeling it. Sophia, you are Chris hands up. So the question about if you're sad, if you're gonna get laid off or relieved, John is gonna be sad.

I love that. I mean, you're in a good spot, right? Yeah, Clark can't fire myself. Yeah, Eric comes in here, sad, I love my job. Yeah, and listen, I love your job. That's, I love that you love your job, right? And that's, that's amazing. Deb comes in introverts when COVID started. This is awesome introverts after you're covered. Okay, now this sucks. So I'm gonna tell you this, I'm an introvert. Right, I use black coffee to kind of get me through the day to be totally frank with you, especially in the mornings. I, I, I have, I've struggled with this, right? I do, I will have to tell you this though.

I was driving around yesterday. I was working out of my outside of my house yesterday and I was driving around. I don't know how I got anything done because as a recruiter before the pandemic hit, I was like driving all the time. So I do like working at home, but yeah, I agree with you on this one. Let's see here, getting my ass outside, absolutely no burnout in this role, John. I love that for you so much. But I've had roles where showing up as a struggle. Michelle comes in here, I had to take a day off to try to recoup not too long ago.

My manager puts a big emphasis on our health, mental, physical, but this new job, my stress level is way better than the last. I love that so much. Eric, yeah, I actually play hockey for that, but I do play low golf. Yeah, I eat lunch outside. I love that. Kristi, I love that so much. Do pushups in my office, walk around the block. I love that. I change jobs mainly for my mental health. And here's to do, I love this from Michelle and I wanna park on this first split second. I think a lot of us need to look in the mirror and be like, well, why are we still here?

Why are we still here? Because I will tell you this, I think a lot of people are gonna be a lot happier on the other side if they realize that, hey, this job is taking on toll on my mental health. Let's see here. I could figure out if I was laid off today, I would rely on my skills to support myself, I would look for the next dev rolls. It would be a, oh, moment, but I'm focused on that. I love that mindset, right? Getting outside is wonderful. I have a pull up bar, Kristi now, I'm here just doing full on workouts at the gym.

TikTok user, I play basketball with my son. I love that son, the son thing is huge with the weather being nice. Yeah, so I'm actually getting out every single morning. Now if you watch me on my vlogs, I'm actually editing my vlogs now outside first thing is where I'm trying to get outside in the first 30 minutes every morning. It really, really helps. I sleep early and wake up early and weekends are fully away from work. Yeah, so that's another thing I'm trying to do. Mohammed, I'm glad you brought this up. I am trying to get better. I, you know, Mother's Day was really good for me.

I actually let my wife know. I said, you know, I know Mother's Day was your weekend, but to be honest spending time with you and my daughter and whose name is Ari, like it was really good for me. Right? And honestly, during this time with this recession, listen, like the market sucks right now, it really, really does. I'm struggling and I may make a video about that here soon, but, you know, really double down on family helps a ton. It helps a ton. Dominik, it's great to see you. Clark goes in. My job, but I'm also burned out and it's in my control for those that work for themselves.

I know you're feeling, yeah, and again, right? I, and again, Clark, for those of you doing on a Clark, he runs that conference, which I'll be up there in Wisconsin in July and y'all need to be there too. But yeah, I get it. I totally get it. Let's see here. When I got laid off as a mixture of initial fear and sadness, but then overwhelming relief afterwards. Yeah, and that's kind of what I'm hearing too. That's kind of what I'm hearing too. When work starts to bleed over in your family life, that's when you need to reevaluate things. I totally get down again. I'm trying to keep myself in check as well.

Taya comes in here trying to balance days of studying and fitness on top of workout. I love to work less and do more on my hobbies. Yeah, I love that. Try to hang out with friends. Yeah, so I like this one, Graham. And again, right? This show is, this show is really just for y'all, right? And that's why I love comments because we can just have this conversation all together. Instead of just me rambling. But I love this from Graham. So I actually hung out with my hockey guys last night. We actually lost in the championship game on Monday, but we still want to hang out together and celebrate the season last night.

And I texted my wife 30 minutes beforehand. I was like, I'm so burn out. I'm so tired from work. I don't want to go. But I will tell you this. I hung out with those guys last night and it was awesome. It was awesome. It was just great to be in fellowship. And so I will tell people, I love this from Graham. Make friends outside of your industry. But I will also tell you this, have friends in your industry that you can vent to, right? Like as much as I can tell my wife, like, hey, this is happening and this is happening. She doesn't get the full gist of it because she doesn't do what I do.

And that's okay. Same thing with her photography. She can talk about a breakdown with photography. And at the end of the day, like I don't get it because I'm not a photographer, right? So but, but so I would say that like find somebody like, like I went to coffee yesterday with a local recruiter in Nashville. He's really, really good. And he's dealing with saying things I'm dealing with. So, so again, it's good to have people around you. Eric, I'm talking about that conference. If you go check just Google that conference or hit up Clark's cell here in the comments, he runs that conference as phenomenal.

It's in Wisconsin. It's incredible. Let's see here. Dominant, thanks man. I appreciate it. I can't seem to do the extra learning sort of of confusion I want right now because we're, yeah, and I'm seeing this too, right? And I'm kind of dealing with this. Just kind of some extra curricular stuff for what I want to do. You know, I don't have a solution to this. I don't have a solution this Brady. I mean, I'm struggling with it as well. And so, you know, again, I think it's evaluating. I think how you're structuring your day too. I know we talked a little bit about, I went live the other day.

We talked a little bit about like, how do you navigate the interview process right now? You know, if you are on the job searching, you are interviewing, I would highly recommend for you to structure your days very, very accordingly. Like, only do client interviews if you can or company interviews at a certain time block. Do your networking in the mornings. Do your calls in the afternoons. Like, you kind of need to divide it up. Like, and same with the workday. Like, I've restructured my workday work week so many times to have balance, right? My calendar, if you try to book time with me, I only allow three meetings a day.

Because I'm not kidding you. I had a few days of 14 meetings and I'm not bragging about that. It was awful. And I was so burnt out. I couldn't even like be with my family mentally at the end of the day. So, you know, I channel all my meetings through calendar. I only have three meetings a day. And it is what it is. So, I'm definitely trying to do that more. Taya comes in here. Yes, I love my Discord group trying to get more involved. Yes, I love that so much. Again, like, and if you, if you do feel alone, you know, I would love yourself if she did join my Discord, but there's so many Discord out there.

I actually do have a link on my public notion page. So if you want the link to that, and send you actually have an article about five to seven Discord groups that are really, really good. Danny Thompson has one, the great Danny Thompson, James Quick, who's awesome. Becca, who runs virtual coffee. So, like, those are a few off top of my head. So, get involved in Discord if you do feel alone, right? Because I think the thing is, I want to stress here as I wrap it up. You're not alone. You're not alone. No one's alone in this thing. Everyone's dealing with the same shit.

Like, and that's what I'm saying. Like, that's what I want to go live. So, you just have this frank conversation and really this conversation be fueled by you all. So, you all see that everybody feels the same way. Everybody feels the same way. Everybody, and I feel the way you feel, right? I think social media is all highlight reels and I know if you watch my stuff, it seems to be going well, but it's not. It's not. My business sucks right now. I'm gonna make 50% less this year, 50%, 50%, not 15%, 50% less this year, right? Like, it's hard. It is so hard right now.

And so, I just want to encourage you all that you're not alone. You're never alone. There's a lot of people that go through the same shit that we're all going through right now. So, listen, that's it for the day. That wasn't super encouraging, I know. It's super peppy, but it's also very real. And I want to be real with you all on this platform. I feel like it's my responsibility to be truthful and be real and be practical with you all and just let you know what's going on. So, all that being said, I love you all. Thank you again for hanging out with us today.

Let's see here. A few more comments are coming in here. Speaking at, yeah, I go, everybody go connect with Muhammad, Dominant comes in here. Honestly, everyone I've talked to lately feels the burnout and secure. Yep, I feel insecure as well, Dominant. Yeah, Matt will again, you're not, you're again, no one's alone, you're not alone. And then, Sierra, I set a schedule of 10, six days of quarter for burnout, Christine, I love that. I probably need to work on it in the last schedule to be totally frank with you. And then, Muhammad, I will post the link in the comment section. So, all right y'all, love you all, appreciate y'all ton.

Hey, tomorrow morning unicorn finders. It's just me, Jake and Dan. We don't have a guest this week for the first time in a while. We've been on a really good tear lately. So, we're just gonna hang out, talk about macro economics, all that stuff. And then Friday, I will be, Friday will be recruiters anonymous. So anyways, love you all. Thank you again, connect with each other. If this episode resonated with you, please share it. And then finally, of course, I work for Vaco, which is a recruiting consulting company. We do everything with my team from accounting and finance ops marketing, ITU name it. So if you wanna work with us, wanna work with me, you like what I say, you wanna work with me as a recruiter.

I'd love to work with you as well, so slide in my DMs. Love y'all, appreciate y'all, see y'all tomorrow. Peace. Hey, you did it. You listened to an entire episode, and I am very grateful, because you know why. There's a lot of podcasts out there. There's a lot of episodes, and I myself rarely finish an entire episode. So I appreciate you so, so much for listening. Quick reminder, please rate and review this podcast in the app store. I want this to be discoverable to others, and the only way that happens is if you take the time right now and rate and review it. Please, like, right now, unless you're driving, then don't do it.

So thank you again. If you need to reach out to me, Tayloratvaco.com, or at T-Dasting on all social media handles. And I hope you have a fantastic day.
