Hello, hello. Thanks for listening to guidance counselor 2.0. Listen, I want to give you a quick rundown of what this podcast is and what you're about to get into as you listen to these episodes. We had guidance counselors in middle school. We had guidance counselors in high school, but we didn't really have guidance counselors in college and now as professionals. We don't really have anybody to turn to to ask a quick question to learn something about the job search or to navigate your career. So that is what I want this podcast to be for you. I want it for it to be a tool for you to navigate the job search and your career.

So that being said, I hope you enjoy this episode and if you need to reach me, tailor at vacovac.com is how to get in touch with me old-fashioned email social media at tdsintdessey. And finally, please rate and review this in the app store because I want this to be discoverable for others so they can navigate their careers. Hope you enjoy the episode. But today I want to talk about what hiring managers and companies should offer more than PTO and remote work. So I want to go ahead. I need y'all to start commenting. So if you have any thoughts on what companies should offer on what companies should provide, right?

Because because for me, I think remote. I think remote is a standard, right? Like literally like in our meetings and our morning meetings, like we have so many companies that are still requiring like hybrid and I understand the hybrid model. I'm not saying, I'm not saying we should be fully remote all the time. But what I'm saying is that if you are having problems finding good talent, you probably need to evaluate your requirements for on site. And so I want to take some time here. Take talk if you're watching. If you are in the tech industry, even if you're not in the tech industry, would love to hear your thoughts on what companies should offer more than just fully remote work.

And obviously competitive pay. Another thing I think. Let's see here. And it said remote ping pong, which obviously I love. I think another thing that companies should offer to is is competitive PTO. I think that's incredibly important. And I think encouraging PTO, but I think having a set PTO policy. For me, I think when you do unlimited PTO, I think it gives, I've started to talk to people and really like start to notice what people say on the internet about PTO. And for me, I think companies need to give. I think companies need to give set PTO like how you get 30 days. Hey, you get 45 days.

Hey, you get 15 days in all the government holidays. I think there needs to be I think there needs to be a set amount of PTO that needs to be given. I heard something that I'm interested here thoughts and again, shout out to talk to all the people joining in right now. I appreciate it. But for me, I think companies. I heard this on a Gary V. Shaw Gary Vaynerchuk, but I heard this on a Gary V podcast yesterday. So basically he said that that remote work is now more emphasis on the individuals right individuality, putting more emphasis on the individual and not as much emphasis on the company.

Right. So what does that mean? I think it's empowering people to do what they want to do right. You know, if a person needs a really good home set up right. For a really good home set up with whatever they need right if it if it in motivates them to work right. I think companies need to offer. Let's see here. I think companies need to allow their employees to have lives outside of work right side hustles right. I think every company should should encourage side hustles right because now I think most companies are going to be scared of that because it's going to take away from the productivity.

But I've noticed that at the end of the day, if people who are busy and are motivated by work outside of work, it's going to give them a break from work which is going to allow them to be more motivated to work. So I have some comments again. If you have comments on what companies should offer more than just remote. Please comment. I really want to hear about it. Brandon, a defined mentorship for junior developers. I don't know why companies do not have this. I have obviously a lot of sessions. I have a lot of sessions on my YouTube channel about junior devs. I don't know why there are not mentorship programs or junior devs.

If you're a company, if you watch this now or in the future, now or in the future, and you have a good junior dev mentorship program. Please DM me. Please at me. Please comment. Please do something. I think it's incredibly important and I want to highlight you. I will probably ask you to come on the show because I want to highlight how you guys do a good mentorship program for junior devs. Tiffany, absolutely. Garrett goes some other nice perks. Flexible work schedule. Ross, non-roth 401k match. Preloaded PTO at the time. Good coffee. Hey, Garrett, listen man. Good coffee is a must also. By the way, if y'all coffee lovers out there, y'all need to look up honey roasted process or like honey processed.

This coffee I have. It's it's L Diablo honey fire or something like that from crema coffee. Holy crap. It is incredible coffee. So look up honey. Kind of the honey roasting process. So is he here work from home budget. Yeah. I mean, Andrew, can you expound on that a little bit like what do you mean work from home budget right like is it like a certain amount for your computer set up is it. I don't know. I don't know. So y'all, y'all let me know what a work from home budget looks like. Um, so you're I have never thought of PTO until this moment interest and keep talking Taylor paid set up time off allowed side hustles.

I'm doing a little dance. Hey, Jason, if I cause you to dance, I would love that. Um, so TikTok coming in on the comments. And Eastern Europe, it's about 20 days of vacation by default. But yeah, that's that's that's it's other world in general. Yeah. So I I have been involved in some comments. Um, I have been involved in some discussions with developers overseas and they get a lot of time off. I don't think that pay is as competitive. But they get a lot of time off. So it's just it's just what's important to you. So thank you. So I'm going to talk to you for that.

I appreciate it. Um, controversial perhaps. But I like having established week or two where everybody is on PTO. So I don't. Oh, I like this. I like this is good. So when people say good things I get chills, Jesse, I got chills. Um, yeah, this is incredibly important. I think, um, I think this is huge. I think I think this is really big companies hiring managers. Alicia, if you're on here, Greg Beamer, what are your thoughts on this about everybody having two weeks off or a week off, like an entire company. That's going to be harder for some than others. Um, but yeah, I'm interested here thoughts on that.

Let's see here. Uh, Elliot, yes, volunteer opportunities. Where did Elliott say volunteer? Oh, here we go. Sorry. I missed that. Um, Elliot offer people equipment. Allow them to do mentorship of volunteer during. Yeah. I mean, I think this is big. I love this. I love this. I love this so much. Um, so so much. Um, TikTok user, what are your pronouns? He, him. I appreciate that. Um, let's see here. More comments coming in. I love this. Hey, y'all, y'all get engaged. I love this so much. Um, again, TikTok. If you have thoughts on what's going on. I love that. I love that. Yeah. Jesse, I love that PTO ID.

I think that's got some legs. I'd be interested. Uh, Gregory, my company, LTI just interned early cohorts and entire program. Hey, Gregory, email me. Let's get you on the pod for real. I mean, email me. Obviously, I love, I love my obviously, I love, I love me some Greg Beamer, but I we need to talk about it. Cause I'd be curious on how you guys built it. Why you guys built it all that. Um, obviously, TikTok user childcare. You know what I, I, I, I talked about this. I tweeted about this the other day. I think if, if, if, if companies offered childcare now having a one year old daughter, um, I would be more apt to go into work.

So I think childcare is a fascinating conversation. Uh, Brandon, where are we going to call your followers? I don't know. I think Alicia's got some ideas. Um, Alicia goes 100% support mentorship programs. Um, above all perks and fun. Do dads just knowing someone who has prior vested interest. Um, in your growth, like a friend or family that was genuinely trying to help you grow. Yeah. I mean, listen, there, there are a lot. Um, there are a lot of things. Um, I think that's a really good idea. Um, that a company can offer, but I think at the end of the day, companies need to put more emphasis, more emphasis on mentorship and building teams.

I think that's incredibly important. Um, so Andrew, going back to his work from home budget, whatever it takes to be efficient and good computer screens. Yeah. I love that. I love the internet. Yeah. 100%. Uh, Dan, what's going on? Dan, paid parental leave. Dan's new Dan. Uh, are you new? I don't think you comment that much. It's good to have you buddy. Hey, have you buddy paid parental leave on par with other developed countries crazy. That options are to be back for two weeks after a kid or two months of unpaid. Yeah. Uh, Dan, are you and staffing? I'm kind of curious. Um, let me know.

I, Dan. Yeah. I, man. Yes. This I, I love work. I really do. I truly genuinely, I have my dream job right now, but I will tell you this. I should have taken more time off for my daughter. I just, I literally took like maybe a week. And then I started working like, yeah. I get it. Uh, Jay sets a great one. Some do that around Christmas. Yeah. I think Christmas Thanksgiving. I think that's an easy thing. Like a week, a week during Christmas just take off. No one's working anyways. Uh, driving, reducing roadings. I'd be one less thing. Yeah. So here, are you talking about like not coming into the office?

Um, because yeah, I'd be fascinated with that. Again, when I drive, I hate saying I'm on my phone a lot. My mom don't be mad at me if you watch this, but like, yeah, like I can do so much more work. Um, Let's see here. Alicia. It's a nice idea, but definitely challenging when you're a SaaS company and, and then you breed resentment if people have to stay back. Yeah. I think Alicia's referring to time off also, by the way, excited to have Alicia. Uh, Alicia and I are going to become a regular thing. Um, so Alicia's going to be on next week, next Monday, I think right Alicia.

Uh, let's see here. What else? Garrett, another one. Budget set aside for search. Also hiring managers. If you're watching this, like, this is why I do this. Like this is a free cheat. Take talk if you're watching. Connect me on LinkedIn so you can see all of the train of thoughts. I love this so much. I'm getting goosebumps because all of the great ideas with this. Um, another one. Budget set aside for search, continue education and mandatory one. I want to coach. I love this. Um, Vaco does this. So Vaco lets me go speak at conferences, be involved at conferences. Um, and also Vaco pairs up an executive leadership coach with you.

If you go through the leadership program. So shout out, Vaco. They do offer some of this stuff as well. Um, Annie. Good morning. Just joining. Love in the conversation. Well, um, Annie, I'm glad you're here. Um, Amy, we offer a strong apprenticeship program, trained junior devs and a strong experience contributors. I love that. Um, Amy, can you please DM me. We need to have you on unicorn finders to highlight your company. So please DM me. Um, that would be great. Uh, key or driving. Yeah. Yeah. I see our sure. We can definitely talk cool. Uh, Alicia, that should have been someone that does not have prior vest interest.

My, it's all good. Install roller coaster. Uh, one of my buddies. I think posted this like, like we're just going to get roller coasters now in the office. Um, so, uh, yeah. Um, day and long time listener. First time common. I appreciate it. Dan, thank you for commenting. It really means a lot. I'm a junior developer looking for a first job. Well, um, if anyone's looking for a junior developer who's got a great headshot, Dan is one of them. Uh, just goes Alicia. Yeah, I can't always work. It went well at an advertising company. I work for a bit. It was kind of a symptom of said company, not really thinking of itself as a software company.

And there were definitely downsides of that approach to again, Jesse's referring to taking time off. Um, I'm traveling in a 28 foot trailer with my wife and two kids. So realistically, company sport me doing. Hey, I love that. Adam, I love that so much. Hey, where are you heading to right now? I'm kind of curious. If you're like in a 20 foot trailer right now, where are you heading to? Please, comment. I definitely want to know. Um, um, who, who more coming in with the kit with the, um, uh, uh, what, what, what the encouragement keep grinding. I love that. You mean both. I love that.

Um, key, guys, I've had days where I followed by police to and from work and road, raise your point. Thank you. That, that's a lot. That's a lot. I'm sorry. You've had to deal with that. That is a lot. Um, Chase. Good morning. Um, spot raises when the person's work. So I want to talk about this companies. Why in the world do we not pay our people? And why do company, why do people have to leave to go get a raise? Like when did, when did that, when did that become a thing? When did that become a thing? Like when did it become a thing where like you have to leave your company who you probably like to go get paid?

Like, I hate saying, I know of a company who hadn't given raise out in years and just gave a raise recently after like four years to people. Like companies we got to do better. We got to do better. Like people are the thing. If you don't follow me on Instagram, I posted this the other day. Follow me on Instagram. T-dest. And if you want a little bit more of my personal life, I post a lot of personal life on Instagram with that. That's interesting to you. Um, by post this people are the thing right now. Why in the world do we not treating our people like the utmost important thing within an organization?

Right? So spot raises. Yeah. Oh my gosh. If, if somebody came to me and go tell your crush and it hears this, like I've been, I love you. Right? I love that. Uh, Edson. Good morning. Uh, we are internationalist morning Brazil's in the house. I love it. Brazil or Argentina. I forgot. Um, Chichar like flex hours. Sometimes I need a daytime nap. Listen, I love it. I love it. Um, I too need a nap sometimes Adam and Southern California right now visiting my family and playing as a travel north. But as well. I love it. My wife and I did the whole, uh, coast of California two years ago before COVID hit.

It was awesome. All right. So Y'all, that was it. Thank you. I'll be tuning in this morning. I appreciate it. Uh, real quick for our head out.
