Going live we are live From LinkedIn Facebook Twitter From bang right here All right, how do you see live Checking off what that was good If I'm asking someone on Thank you everybody for tuning in again some people strictly in 9 a.m. Every morning hanging out with what I was a boy who's awesome please No, no, let a few You For those of you like 80s just vibes check out full-side FM. This is not an endorse Same, this is like four-sided and All right, cool. Let's go hang this started with one minute past Thank you again for tuning in to guidance council 2.0 the live edition Not the podcast edition the live edition And I said yesterday that That it's just gonna be me.

Hey, it's just gonna be me doing this for 15 minutes But then out of the conversation. I had yesterday to myself to you I texted my boy Drew Dawson Who is probably the poster child now? At least the most recent poster child for putting yourself out there and what does it look like and so again if if you did not catch My live stream yesterday we talked about putting yourself out there And I think right now in this market everyone's at home. You can't go to networking events Right, you can't go to breakfastes, right? You can't go to conferences But what you can do is obviously leverage the the social media aspect You know, I think a lot of people in today's world struggle With how do you social media right?

You know is it self promotional at the time? Do I talk about my pets? Do I talk about my family that post pictures of my weekend? Right, do I make it pretty artsy and make my Instagram look like a you know art gallery And I think and that's all fine and great But I think the the key to unlocking kind of your your career trajectory is Hacking LinkedIn or hacking Twitter or hacking Instagram and so no and so without further ado I want to introduce Drew. I want to introduce Drew. I'm gonna get Drew introduce himself to Drew Take it away, man. Let the let the you know two listeners who are viewers who are watching Tell him about yourself, man.

Perfect. Yeah, so I For the last two two and a half years working with Taylor down at the veg or Nashville and recently I decided to make the move back home to Minneapolis and I'm really fine with myself in that decision because it's currently snowing. We got about 10 inches this week already and It's 85 degrees down here Snapchast everybody down there and it's I'm fine with myself in that decision, but And I was at a point where I didn't really know what I wanted to do Didn't want to keep recruiting didn't I want to get the sales? I had a really you know strong interest in the software health care A lot of different industries and so I reached out to Taylor because I said how do I get myself out?

To a Y-platform or a wide variety of people just so I can spark up some conversations across different industries He recommended doing videos. I think Taylor recommended me doing videos probably 15 18 months ago Completely ignored him, you know, what a why why why did you ignore me? I think I think the biggest thing for me is What I look at guys like you and you have such a strong Present something like didn't you make videos every day in your content is consistent. It's constant I you know why make one video. What's that ever gonna do for me? It's one video. What is that ever gonna get me and?

You know you just said take the chance make one video. You know 90 seconds two minutes. Whatever you got to do Do it if it doesn't work whatever move on with your life. But try it see if you like it And boy did I like it. I mean now. I love doing it. It's crazy the outreach you get consistently from it the positivity I have people reaching out to me just you know, hey, so your video It's really encouraged me to step up my game. Yeah, I love the user videos A template and trying to mark myself like that and it's it's worth wonders So let's so let's talk about so let's get kind of granular in kind of the conversation Message me and you're like hey listen.

I'm tired of submitting my resume. Yes And listen for for the people who are watching Drew's a recruiter Right, so so if you're watching you're like you're like yeah, yeah, I get it like I get it Drew Taylor Like your recruiters like y'all know how to do jobs just Drew's a recruiter And he still was doing the traditional way of job searching Yep, and so Drew met me goes what should I do and so Drew Talk about the video and just what you talked about it wasn't long. I was like two minutes No, no, and it wasn't long. Oh, it's super simple actually. I thought it was really hard to be honest with you It was hard to watch myself talk.

I cringed. I'm not gonna lie, but It's easier as time goes on But what I talked about was simple it was just a little bit about my background You know what I'd done in the past what my strengths are and what I was interested in and that was it And it was super simple once I just you know picked it up and started doing it Yeah, and so talk me through So and people like all right, well Taylor's doing like all these graphic stuff. So Drew like You just did off your phone Why did I'm like a computer? That's fine. That's fine. That's fine. I want to But like no idea No zero editing at all no lighting Nothing no ring lights just basically sit in my parents kitchen and I you know pull my laptop out recording myself for two minutes and that was it It's super simple super easy Yeah, and so and listen you like like you have some fans right the video is solid right I mean Josie was one of my followers on Twitter, right like he I told him check your video right video solid and so and so again like It talked me through the response that had the response that happened because it was cool because I commented and this is what the powerful This is the power of LinkedIn right like I commented on your post and then I started I started getting notifications of the post To which was it got annoying after bells like I got it Drew Drew's getting some reach And then I got jealous Right hey, here's now a cat they're super inspiring to this give me so much hope during this tough times again Right see this is what I'm saying.

It's crazy. You don't have to over-engineer this thing You just post it and so talk me through Talk me through the responses that happened. Yeah, so I'll rewind so I've been plying for about a month And how many jobs you think you submitted to in a month? Oh God Oh, 100 plus and they're all over the place It wasn't just a recruiting wasn't just in sales. It wasn't BD account I mean, I'm sure everything and that was the problem I think and I really didn't understand where I wanted to be in that next step But the outreach I got I posted that one video within 24 hours I probably had a hundred direct messages from people in all across different industries different times And higher managers different recruiters at a different markets.

It was it wasn't just here Minneapolis That was the crazy thing about the outreach. There's people from San Francisco to Minneapolis that were reaching out to me So the outreach is insane. I never had to apply another job again. I had enough interviews Say that one more time say that one more time video and I never had to apply another job again That's it man, and I think the biggest thing about that is it gets the your true personality out It's not just a resume to show the people who you are. You know if you're really articulate that can take you wonders It did I was shocked.

I honestly was I hate to give you credit sometimes, but it was amazing Well, no, it wasn't you have to but I but I think and It's not I mean people so so let's talk about like the fear aspect and kind of the the self doubt so you know I mean What do you think like finally it would you think you got to a point of desperation where you find it like this and like something's got changed Yes, I think oh Drew. I think I lost a big dog Drew come back Drew come back Are you still there buddy? Who was just about to like like light in to To everybody and just give give some give some good good stuff and then I froze up hold on real quick Let me get you back on come on Drew come back to us come back to us Maybe it's on me Drew Add them back and the back so while Drew's coming back on so again, right?

So this is what this one talking about just just in regards to This one talking about just in regards to putting out content there right Drew's a recruiter Drew You're not to give some just some good good stuff and then you're like froze So what so the question I asked you is that you got to a point of desperation and then you're about to say some good stuff So talk to about what really triggered to you to get there? I don't know this true desperation it might have been desperation at some point or some trouble But I just think you know doing the traditional applications and it's so frustrating Grow through the application process of putting your resume in it could come the job of a location You you know partial resume then the ask you to fill out your resume You know your work experience again and again and again It just it was so tedious and I want to do something different and put myself out there And a two minute video I mean that is so simple to do and how far except right me from rest You know the candidates that were doing the traditional route of going through the resume the resume resume I just can't encourage and Challenge everyone that they're struggling if they're hitting that point of desperation just try something different.

Maybe it's not a video. Maybe I mean yes, the people think like you know, it's like you said, right? You see me and here's the deal like everyone wants a story right and also we will get to this question in a second but Like people think like oh my gosh, I see Taylor doing this right or I see so and so doing this like like there's so many people in my network I look up to then I'm like I'm not making a dent and things like insecurity and posture syndrome is real and I think like it just takes one video Yeah, just it takes one or but then I sit but then I again I say if you're not comfortable with video, don't you video?

Like like you can write like I would live blog on LinkedIn right LinkedIn is a is your blog is your journal Right, I think you know you can do audio right if you hate writing and you hate doing video But you can just talk all day do audio and so you don't have to completely And more than what the video really helped me with is you know video interviews are sometimes a little bit weird You can't really catch the vibe But I think watching myself speak during that two minute video just watching how I interacted on the camera It really helped me in video interviews going forward So you're uncomfortable in the video setting maybe just record yourself a little bit Utilize video to see how you interact with people and how you come off through a video setting Absolutely.

Yeah. I mean that's a whole another conversation the power of watching yourself talk me I was a minor in in Minor in public speaking in college and we had to like record ourselves and watch ourselves And it was painful and and but I'm telling you the more you watch yourself the more you listen to yourself Like I this may sound narcissistic But like I listen to my own podcast because I take notes I'm like did I say um did I say so did I say but like I got to get rid of this and so you start doing that and then that Really gets you a really good communicator because you can start communicating like very specifically Which from a business perspective carries over from an interview Right or something asked you to interview like tell me about yourself and you just ramble for six minutes like it's not gonna be effective So I'm at the whole another kind of pod or kind of catch up session I don't know if you're really bored.

Go check out my that first video. I posted it. I think I said 475 times in two minutes. Yeah Yeah, so all right, let's get to some questions because we're gonna wrap it up here again I want to keep a short and simple for the people who watch this thing go back on their day Also, Drew can go play out in the snow. I want snow. I'm so hot nation. I want to go play in the snow It just are you're it's knowing I don't know what's going on I love it. So just you said does this translate to tech or the technical interview is so important I think this transfers across Every industry you could be an accountant right you can be a Developer right I recruit software engineers Right, but like I'm telling you like this transfers and this is what I've been saying like I think you should do a mock first round interview Imposted on LinkedIn in the featured section where you can kind of pin stuff and LinkedIn and I do a mock first-run interview Hey, listen my name is Taylor.

This is you know, let's face it all first-run interviews are the same Hey tell me about yourself. What are your greatest strengths? What are your greatest weaknesses? And then we all trying to turn our weaknesses into a positive, right? I'm really OCD, but I promise it's a good thing And so yeah, Drew I didn't know if you had comments on this No, I couldn't agree more I think it transfers across all and you like you said every first-run interviews the same tell me by yourself We'll back to minute video kind of alleviates that pain and they already know a little bit about you going into the interview So I think it just you know, that's set you up for success.

Awesome. Hoseway. Thank you for clarifying how to pronounce your name I'm very very sorry. Hoseway. Thank you very much Claire. Yeah, or if the link to application doesn't work that's a whole other thing Hiring it higher in general in the entire process is broken Brooke what's going on? Can you drop a link to Drew's LinkedIn or video for example? Absolutely? I will if you want to just Google Drew Dawson and LinkedIn to It's one of his recent posts. I'll definitely Put it in the comments Kathy says what did you use to record yourself? So Drew you just I mean, yeah, what does user record yourself on the computer?

Just I have just have a regular Dell computer. I typed in camera on You know like little search bar on the bottom and I click video and that was it I did It honestly like listen like get a stand on Amazon $15 phone stand and what's cool is I'm trying to find the remote I have a remote it's a Bluetooth remote so you can set it on a stand click play So you don't have to even go back and forth with your phone So again, you don't have to over-enginee thing another thing as well If you want to do audio and podcast check out anchor anchor is a crazy good tool Hoseway yes, Loom is also a great app as well Actually, no a guy Nashville on the design team.

So check that out. Loom is fantastic I know Hoseway has been doing live videos about his coding on LinkedIn and Twitter So anyways cool Sweet Drew. Thanks for hanging out Have good day. You keep you keep crushing it. Everybody. Thanks for tuning in Say Thursday. I will not be doing a lot one on Friday Because I just won't so I'll see everybody on Monday. Thanks y'all Drew take it easy. No see that
