Hello, hello. Thanks for listening to guidance counselor 2.0. Listen, I want to give you a quick rundown of what this podcast is and what you're about to get into as you listen to these episodes. We had guidance counselors in middle school. We had guidance counselors in high school, but we didn't really have guidance counselors in college and now as professionals. We don't really have anybody to turn to to ask a quick question to learn something about the job search or to navigate your career. And so that is what I want this podcast to be for you. I want it for it to be a tool for you to navigate the job search and your career.

So that being said, I hope you enjoy this episode. And if you need to reach me, Taylor at vacovac.com is how to get and touch me old fashioned email social media at tdsintdesse. And then finally, please rate and review this in the app store because I want this to be discoverable for others so they can navigate their careers. Hope you enjoy the episode. So probably work. So for those of you who don't know what Poly work is, Poly work in my opinion is not a place necessarily to post content. It's just not. It's just not. I mean, listen, like Peter, if you're watching this, correct me if I'm wrong, but in my perspective, it's great to see you girls, great to see you in Cincinnati, Stacy is great to see you as well.

Poly work is not a content creation platform. So like if you're if you want to if you think like I do where it's like, well, if I'm going to post something, I want to get reach, I want to get reach in other platforms. Poly work is not that. Poly work, what Poly work does though is Poly works great for the people. So remember I talk about three ways to use social media, right? You can post content. You can like comment engage. And then you can DM, right? And for those of you who just like wanted DM or want to collaborate with likes and comments, I think Poly work is better for you.

If you want to post and develop content and get a reach, Poly works not it right now. I think once they figure that out, I think it could go to the next level. If anybody's watching from Poly work now in the future, please DM me. And if I'm wrong, please correct me because I want to speak accurately. So Poly work, if you're looking at it now, so this is the home page. So Poly work is a place where you can post your accomplishments, right? When I caught up with Peter, the CEO of founder, he said what my goal for Poly work works well is is a place for you to put your accomplishments, right?

So it's to kind of get out of the resume. And it's just a place to really put your accomplishments. So if you scroll down here, you can see, you know, obviously, you know, it's a little cumbersome in my perspective, but you can see like you can tag people in your accomplishments, right? You can post comments. There's Barrett, Barrett former guest show Barrett used it. He tagged me in it, which I think is great. So again, you can do a lot of stuff here, right? You really, really can. What I would, what the few features I want to highlight today is the badge feature. So if you go right under your name, you see obviously badges, right?

So hiring speaker, software engineering, open source. So when you create your profile, you can add badges. And if you look at it, there is a ton of badges, right? Maybe I need to put content creator, right? So I'm going to add that recruitment. I'm going to add that as well, right? So I'm going to add those, right? And so here's all my badges, right? So it's kind of a way to tell me who you are without me talking to you, right? So if you go to my page, there's hiring software engineering, mentor, advisor, speaker, open source, DevOps coding, I don't really recruit DevOps that much.

So I'm going to, I'm going to take off DevOps. But like, but like what you can see is you can see, you know, coding, corgi, love, or content creator recruitment, right? You can see what I do. The reason why these badges are so important, the reason why these badges are so important is the way to connect with people, right? So if I click software engineering badge that I'm associated with, there are 30,699 people with the term software, software engineering badge, right? And so what that does, what that does is all these people are in the software engineering space. So you have the ability to connect with all of these folks, right?

And you can follow with them, right? Same thing, right? If you want to go super narrow, you got corgi lover, right? So if you go here, so again, I have a corgi, I love corgies, right? So there's 18 people where you can, where you can connect with people, right? So Lou, I can message Shawn, I know Shawn, Shawn, what's up, man? Fellow corgi lover here. Let's chat, right? Love that. So badges incredibly important, right? Here is, here is what I want to talk about, which is, which is another one, right? Is, so, so the feed section, a little clunky for me still, right? You can follow people, you can see people post, which is fine.

But I really love the collaborate tab, right? So the collaborate tab within Poly Work has the ability for you to see all of the ways that you can connect with folks, right? So for example, right? Podcast guest on the first customer's podcast, right? You can click this. And literally there's, they talk about all the things that you can join here. These are product designers, right? All of these are, so the site, this person is looking for user engagement audit, right? There's 148 listings for product designers. So if you want to connect with other product designers, you go to, again, go to collaborate and go here, right?

Collaboration listening, and here's another thing, right? So not only do they have groups, then you can collaborate via badges, right? So let's say you want, let's say you want podcast speaking opportunities. Right? So that's something you want to do. Right? Here are all the podcast speaking opportunities, right here, right? Podcast guest calling all leaders, like you could literally spend your entire day getting on other people's podcast right here. Same thing here, right? So let's say I want to resume feedback opportunities, right? Well, no one's open to that yet, right? And requests for introduction opportunities, right? Well, here's one, intros to web three, fun. So again, I'm going a little too granular here.

The collaborate model allows you to be able to network with others. And again, right, I see people here, right, in a random. So this is going to be more work for me to do not necessarily, man, not necessarily, not necessarily Jeff. It's great to see you in Melinda. It's great to see you. Yeah. So again, you haven't found, so that's my thing, right? Founding my finding your routine with a new platform. I haven't found my routine either yet, Jeff. I haven't. I preach about it because I think it's really good, but it's not good for what I need it for, right? What I need it for is for people to find me and to learn for me at an organic scale.

That's not poly work, right? But if I was on the job search and I was really wanting to go super deep or super narrow on a few things, this is the way to do it, right? Here's another thing too. I have not seen clubs yet. Clubs is a private invite only. So I guess I can request access. That's, oh, I'm not going to fill that out right now. But look, it actually looks like more community driven, right? So what it looks like from a poly work perspective. And again, if anybody, if anybody's watched this from Poly Work and I'm misspeaking, please correct me and reach out.

But it looks like Poly Work is really focusing more on clubs, communities, building communities, right? So again, just something to look about again, if you go to clubs here, but collaborate is still the best way. Obviously, you can post opportunities availability what you're available for. I want to go. Let's see here. Yeah, Katie, I signed up wasn't sure how to use it. Yeah, most people don't, right? I mean, and again, you know, Poly Work, if you're watching, I would love to help develop content for you around this. But basically, you know, Barrett coming here, I, I, I, I wander in a Poly Work every month.

God to be honest, not seeing motivation yet. Just like the same, same, right? Here's the, I'm telling you all this to consider it, right? To, to give it a shot. The way I would use it, and this is totally on the spot here. I haven't, I haven't thought about this. If, if, if I were to use Poly Work as somebody who's kind of casually looking, I would get on Poly Work 15 minutes a day. And what I would do is I would literally, I would start with the collaborate tool and I would try to figure out ways where I can get in touch with people, right?

So, you know, if, if, so, so like Barrett, for example, right? Cause I saw you post this, right? You're wanting to do more stuff at conferences, right? What I would do if I were you Barrett is I would go on either live stream opportunities or podcasts speaking opportunities. And I wouldn't message these folks like, hey, listen, it would love to come on your show. I can talk about this. I can talk about that, right? I, cause I think what, so if I were Barrett and again, I'm only calling it Barrett cause I've seen his tweets and I know Barrett, like I, I would use Poly Work to go super deep on one thing, right?

If it's going live with other people to develop your brand, this is a great way to do it, right? If you were kind of on the job search and you're wanting to meet other people in the product space or software engineering space, I would do it here. Here's another thing and I'm about to forget, which is what I love about Poly Work is you know how I talk about on LinkedIn that the top three ways to DM somebody, admiration, flattery, specific amount of time and a specific question, right? Those are three ways. Poly Work actually takes the guess work out of it, right? So, so for example, so let's go back to my profile.

My page, let's go to software engineering, right? So let's say I want to connect, I mean, I know Nick, right? Nick, Nick, and I can like message Nick on LinkedIn. That's not the point, right? So let's say I want to collaborate with Nick, right? So here, here are the things that Nick wants to collaborate on. Speaking of advanced speaking on podcast live streaming, writing, speaking on Twitter spaces, right? So, so in my perspective, the best way to get Nick in my ecosystem and for him to talk to me is speaking out events, speaking on podcast live streaming, right? So I could say, hey, Nick, I would love for you to come on my podcast.

Hey, Nick, would love for you to come on my podcast. Let me know. Sen, right? I think this is probably the most underrated part of Poly Work that no one's talking about is the fact that this allows you the opportunity to DM somebody with the interest that they already want slash need. Does that make sense? So again, that's it for today. That is, that's all I want to go over is Poly Work 101. Because again, again, the common theme is it looks great. I've set up my platform, but I don't know how to use it and take advantage of it. So again, those three ways I would do, I would leverage badges to connect with people and I would leverage to collaborate tool to get on other people's radars.

And I would try to work that in 10 to 15 minutes every single morning. So that's it for me today. I appreciate it. Thanks for coming to hang out with me. Hopefully you learned something. I will of course show this podcast and clips moving forward. So if you missed it, you can listen to it or watch it on my social media. And if this resonated with you, I need to say this more. If this resonated with you, share it on LinkedIn. If somebody in your network needs to hear this, please share it. Because again, I want this to be a tool for others to be able to network down the road.

So hopefully you'll have a great Monday. It was a pleasure being with y'all real quick. I got guests for the rest of the week. So tomorrow, Michael Doudin. Michael is a fantastic CEO that I'm catching up with CTO. I have Gene Laggot coming on Wednesday. Gene is in the recruiting space. So I'm going to talk to her and then unicorn finers on Thursday with a really cool company to healthcare space. And then my first introduction, my first introduction of my team member, someone on my team Sloan Bartley is coming on Fridays. You get to meet a member on my team, which is going to be a blast.

I can't wait for y'all to get to know my team a little bit better. So y'all have a great one. Hopefully I have a great Monday. We'll see you all tomorrow. Peace. Hey, you did it. You listened to an entire episode and I am very grateful because you know why. There's a lot of podcasts out there. There's a lot of episodes and I myself rarely finish an entire episode. So I appreciate you so, so much for listening. Quick reminder, please rate and review this podcast in the app store. I want this to be discoverable to others and the only way that happens is if you take the time right now and rate and review it.
