So first off, I just want to hang, right? So if you have any questions for those of you who are watching, if you have any questions, you're just something you want to ask me. I'm going to go ahead and open it up now. While I'm waiting on questions come in, I want to talk to you about a post that I put out recently, but an individual I saw on Twitter is named Corey Quinn. Corey is a senior, he's a senior engineer. He's a chief cloud individual at Duckville Group, which I think is a consulting group, and he's heavily on the AWS side of things. So I was tagged on a Corey's tweets and I was, I post this on LinkedIn, but I want to talk about it kind of talk through this.
This was the main thing I wanted to talk through, is about how he would go about finding a job. And so, he talks about, hey, there's a ton of application these days, like it doesn't get you where you want to go. Stop a minute, be intentional, pick a company, you'd honestly like to work for, name it, and then he goes through on how to obviously find it. And so what he does is he kind of goes through, and he originally, so he uses Stripe as an example. So he goes to Stripe webpage, he sees the jobs, and then they're obviously, he talks about very basic job, very, very basic job postings.
And so he goes in and he talks about how there are applied pages of trap. So he goes instead, he pulls up the Stripe's LinkedIn page, and notice that I have three connections who work there. Then from Stripe, from that LinkedIn page, he then goes and DM's those individuals, right? So that's huge, right? So I want to talk about that as a job seeker, don't apply your resume to the website. Don't, right? Take the information from the website and open jobs, go to LinkedIn, go to that company's LinkedIn profile, and see who you have connections with. And then DM as individuals. Now one thing that he talks about is, so a quick DM message, hey Pat, hey individual, I'm considering my next move was hoping I could grab a virtual coffee and pick your brain about Stripe.
If that saves me, I'd like to learn more. That's a great DM, right? The art of DM's, I put out a live show about this a few months back, how to not be creeping the DM's. I think the art of DM's is incredibly important. Like don't read off with, hey, don't read off with what's up, and just leave it there. Talk about how you can provide value. And this is kind of going, so I wanna pivot away from this. And again, this morning chat with y'all, it's just kind of a bunch of thoughts I have. So I'm sorry if it may not be the most organized thing in the world, but the whole point of this is not to be organized and polished.
It's just a hang time with us. But Gary Banderchuk, I love Gary B. Gary Banderchuk posted this the other day about how trying to get experience. You don't, so Gary B says, he has so many people DM him asking Gary, they'll work for free for him. And Gary Banderchuk says, I have so many individuals messes me that, they'll work for free like it doesn't do anything. But the moment somebody messages me something that they have created, me and my creative team look at it immediately. Now, you're probably watching this, whether or not or in the future you can go, okay, Taylor, that sounds great. How does that apply to me as a job seeker?
Well, Corey talks about it, which is why I wanna talk about this today. So what Corey talks about is, let's see here, Corey talks about essentially building a mock-up or proof of concept of something that uses that company software. So what he talks about, I'm trying to find this, it's a really long thread, is that basically developing with Stripe. So if I was starting out with no history or audience, I'd spend an evening mocking something up with Stripe API and then see if I could find a striped dev rel. So developer advocate, developer relations type to ask about what I'd built, creating excuse to have a conversation.
This is huge. And like I saw Corey Quinn tweet this, and then and by the way, his tag is Quinnie Pig, Q-U-U-I-N-N-Y-P-I-G, follow him, let him know I sent you his way. I'm trying to get him on the live show. But that's huge, right? So you had, so over the last week or two, I had Gary Vaynerchuk talk about slide into his DMs with product that you've already built, which will get attention. And Corey Quinn talks about how you need to develop mock-up using that company software feature and then DM a dev relations or senior engineer there and then get some initial feedback in the DMs.
And I think that's huge. And so that's the main thing I want to leave you with this morning. It's honestly, that's it. Any questions you have, please comment at me. Let me know, but that's it. What I'm saying to you is if you are trying to find a job right now saying, hey, what's up? Can we have coffee? But come on to be honest with you. If you ask me to have coffee, I don't have time to have coffee. I don't, I don't. I love you, but I don't have time to do coffee with you. If I, first off, I'm on a fast. I'm that guy that tells everybody I want to fast.
I'm finishing my fast sit, tastes my last day at the fast, so stoked. But I cannot coffee on it. But if you DM me and said, hey, we have coffee, I'm gonna say, I'm gonna say, I'm a slam. Because I don't. If I had coffee appointments, everybody asked me to have coffee, I would never get any done, which is why I do this live show is a chance and opportunity for you to ask me questions and hang out. But if somebody DMing or hey, Taylor listen, I've heard you've been having issues with your email and catching up with emails. So I created what you've talked about.
I'm gonna tell you this, I'm gonna have a conversation with you immediately. So if there's anything I can get across to you today as a job seeker, create something for a higher manager, create something for the company and leverage that to start a conversation at your dream job. I've been messaging people about, there's that kind of a kerfuffle with fast, the checkout company, right? We won't get into that here. But if you want to work it fast, I would literally use their software to create some sort of mock up and then say, hey, Mr. Mrs. Senior Principal and Junior Architect, I've used this, do you think y'all could use this?
Or what are your thoughts on this? And then boom, it's gonna get immediate feedback. So that's it. That's all I wanna talk about today is the fact of the art of creating something to get traction within the company you wanna work for. Between what Gary Bainerchuk said to me, or not too many geez, on the internet about how he doesn't look at anybody who offers or services for free, which to me if you did that, I would look, but we're talking about scale here. But he looks at everything that is created and then Corey Quinn, who I fall on Twitter, said that as well. I just really feel like I need to share that with you today about the art of creating something to get traction at that company.
So again, thank y'all for tuning in. I really, really, really appreciate it. It means a ton. If you have any questions, DM me at me, let me know. But, suck my main scammer. Yeah, absolutely, I love it. I am a scammer every morning. I'm on here just scamming people. So again, y'all DM me at me if you have any questions. Have a great Tuesday. It was good hanging with you all this morning. And tomorrow, 9 30 AM Central, my boys, unicorn fighters will be going live and we'll be hanging out. Hope you guys enjoyed this. Thanks y'all.
